View on Facebook · Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Linked In Share by Email Killaloe Coast Guard Unit **Call-out**At 19:55hrs Monday evening while out on exercise Killaloe Coast Guard unit were tasked to a person who had been swimming on Lough Derg over a number of hour's and existed the water at Two Mile Gate Killaloe but was showing signs of hypothermia and feeling unwell. A Coast Guard crew who was on the water in the units D.class rescue boat responded and were on scene within five minutes of the call, a shore team also responded to Two Mile Gate from the Coast Guard station at Pier Head Killaloe.The causality was assessed and a Ambulance was requested to attend. The Coast Guard crew kept the causality comfortable and continued to assess his condition under the National Ambulance service arrived and took over care of the causality. The Lough Derg RNLI Lifeboat was already on scene but due to the location of the vessel and the severe weather conditions at the time the decision was made to use the Coast Guard D.class rescue boat to access the causality vessel in shallow water. The D.class crew travelled to Terryglass Harbor by road and launched into challenging conditions to reach the causality vessel, after a quick brief with the RNLI Lifeboat crew the Coast Guard D.class navigated it's way onto the stern of the causality vessel, A crew member was transferred on board and found the two persons on board safe and well and wearing life jackets. The occupants were taken on board the Coast Guard D.class and transported out of danger to the RNLI Lifeboat where they were then transported to Dromineer Harbour by the Lifeboat crew.The D.class crew then returned to Terryglass Harbour where a shore team were waiting to assist in recovering the rescue boat. At 15:30hrs the D.class crew were back on station in Killaloe.This tasking showed the excellent multi agency coordination between the Irish Coast Guard and RNLI crew's on Lough Derg working together to insure a safe rescue in challenging conditions. The unit responded to the station and were met by members of An Garda Síochána who confirmed that the call was a false alarm with good intent. The vessel with four persons on board was drifting south of the new Killaloe bridge towards Parteen Weir.
